WHAT ARE THE BODYBUZZ BENEFITS?

THE BENEFITS

Why EMS is the best workout for anyone over 35?

At Bodybuzz, we believe that incorporating Electrical Muscle Stimulation into your life is one of the best ways to improve your overall health and wellbeing, as well as increase longevity and general happiness. As we age, we quickly begin to lose strength, agility, mobility, energy, and muscle mass. This can significantly impact our ability to perform simple daily tasks, maintain an active lifestyle, and prevent serious injuries and chronic pain in joints and ligaments. New research makes it clear that in order to slow down this process and maintain strength and independence as we age, adults should focus on building and maintaining muscle.

But, why Electrical Muscle Stimulation, specifically?

You might be wondering what makes Electrical Muscle Stimulation during exercise superior to traditional weight lifting and resistance training. Here’s why- using Electrical Muscle Stimulation with Bodybuzz gives you the fastest, safest, and single most effective full body workout without any pain or dangerous impact. With Bodybuzz, the EMS intensity is calibrated to your individual ability. Our personal training sessions and small group training classes are just 20 minutes. Incorporating Bodybuzz’s Electrical Muscle Stimulation (EMS) workouts twice a week will provide results similar to those of weight lifting, without having to lift heavy weights, risk any injuries, or put any unnecessary strain on your joints and ligaments.

Typically, when you work out at the gym you will only use between 40-70% of your strength potential. EMS improves how your muscles work together and increases the intensity of your muscle contractions, enabling your body to use 90% of its potential–and achieving more in a shorter amount of time.

The extra stimulation given to your muscles during an EMS workout is what leads to an increase in muscle mass. After just a few workout sessions, you will typically notice an increase in the size of your chest, arm, and leg muscles.

Several studies have also demonstrated that EMS workouts are particularly effective at speeding up the muscle rebuilding process after a surgical procedure. (Note: after any kind of surgical procedure, always seek the advice of your doctor before resuming physical activity).

EMS training promotes a high level of metabolic activity during, and for many hours after, a workout session, thanks to the EPOC effect. The higher your metabolism, the better your body will burn fat and build lean muscle mass.

For women, EMS Workouts have been proven to reduce the size of common problem areas, such as around the waist, hips, and thighs. At the same time, it will firm up the chest and arms.

For men, EMS Workouts reduce the waist size while also developing the arm, chest, back, and leg muscles.

An EMS Workout promotes the circulation of blood throughout the muscles, which can significantly help to release muscular tension and knots.

In many types of sports, strength has a major impact on performance. EMS workouts maximize the capacity and strength of the muscles, as well as correcting the postural imbalances that can impede performance. An EMS workout is an incredibly useful and time-efficient fitness program to undertake alongside conventional types of training for sports such as cycling, running, soccer, and swimming.

An imbalance in the postural muscles in the back, stomach, and pelvic floor can cause a variety of uncomfortable symptoms including back pain. You might notice this particularly if you sit at a desk for long periods of time. EMS can specifically target and train these difficult to reach muscle groups, often causing a noticeable reduction in symptoms and an improvement in overall posture and flexibility.

An EMS Workout is low impact on joints and ligaments. The workout intensity does not result from heavy loads but from electrical stimulation. This results in minimal stress on the joints, bones, and ligaments. During an EMS Workout, the exercise intensity is generated by electrical stimulation. This enables the user to enjoy safe workout sessions that are easy on the joints, without any extra burden being posed by using heavy weights.

EMS training is designed to allow for the selective targeting of particular muscle groups. This is especially important to correct muscular imbalances. Sitting at a desk or in a car for extended periods, for example, leads to a shortening of the chest muscles and the simultaneous weakening of the shoulder and back muscles.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND EMS

THE SCIENCE

During an EMS Workout at Bodybuzz, one of our personal trainers will configure a wide range of parameters to suit your individual needs. However, an important difference to other forms of exercise is that we are able to activate ALL of the muscle groups simultaneously. This makes a Bodybuzz personal training workout unlike anything you’ve ever experienced and much more time-efficient than conventional strength training or gym sessions, which typically only work a few muscle groups at a time.

There is a vast amount of data from scientific studies and trials which demonstrate the incredible benefits of whole-body EMS training. For example, research out of Bayreuth University in Germany reported the following results after training with EMS for just six weeks:

  • On average, 85% of people tested saw an improvement in their body shape.
  • The higher intensity training produced visible results in terms of enhanced muscle definition and tone.
  • Whole body EMS training is up to 40% more intensive than traditional strength training with weights.
  • Overall, maximum strength ability increased by 12%.
  • Endurance and fitness levels improved by 69%.

What can you expect during a Bodybuzz session?

You will start your session by changing into a specifically designed set of undergarments we call the Base Layers. They are designed to fit under our suits and conduct electricity. During your first session we will provide you with a set to use. Once you sign up for Bodybuzz you will purchase a Base Layer set of your own at a nominal cost. Your trainer will moisten the electrodes on the suit and help get you suited up.

Your trainer will ask you about any areas of concern and then begin your personal training session where you will be led through a series of movements and exercises based on your comfort level and fitness goals. Bodybuzz EMS workouts are quick, efficient and low-impact on your joints, tendons and ligaments.

The suit generates low electrical pulses that will flow through the electrodes into your major muscle groups. The stimulation feels like a tingling or buzzing sensation but it is not painful. During your EMS workout, your personal trainer will be constantly asking you how you feel, how hard the movements are and if you can handle more stimulation. Each and every workout is customizable to your fitness goals.

At the conclusion of the workout the suit will be put into recovery mode for 2-3 minutes. This is a gentle mode that feels like a full body massage and promotes relaxation and blood flow. It’s everybody’s favorite part of the session!

Finally, your trainer will help you get out of the EMS training suit and you’ll change back into your street clothes. The entire process will take about 30-35 minutes.

Because we will be stimulating such a large number of muscles you can expect to be a bit sore starting the second day after your initial session.  You’ll want to keep hydrated and allow your body to recover before your next session.

No. The electrical current is low impulse and completely safe. While the workout sessions can be intense, the actual feeling of the current is gentle and non-invasive. Our personal trainers will tailor your routine so you won’t be stretched beyond your personal capabilities. Training or therapy with low frequency electrical stimulation does not pose any danger whatsoever. This is because our muscles are continuously working with the help of natural electrical impulses all the time anyway. When you’re training with EMS, these impulses are simply amplified.

The major advantage to EMS training is that, unlike conventional training, there is no additional strain on the joints. The electric impulses work on the muscles directly, so there is no pressure on the joints ensuring they cannot be over-worked (as can often happen with weight training).

Even if you’ve never stepped foot into a gym before, you can quickly achieve visible results by training with Bodybuzz just once or twice per week. It is a form of full body workout that can be used by almost anyone over the age of 18.  EMS training is not advisable for certain groups who should not be exposed to physical stress or engage in sports. This includes people with severe cardiovascular disease, severe neurological or neuromuscular disorders, and anyone with an implanted electronic medical device. If you’re pregnant, have cancer, have epilepsy, or severe kidney disease, you are also unable to train with EMS. If you’re unsure, please consult with your physician.

Yes, you can expect to sweat during these workouts! Your muscles will be contracting and working hard even though you may not feel like you are putting in much effort yourself. That’s how you’ll get such great benefits so quickly.

Yes, just like any other full body workout, you will feel the effects afterwards. Our certified professional trainers can talk to you about how to best recuperate after a workout.

You should not engage in strength training exercise in between Bodybuzz sessions. You can, however, do light to moderate cardio workouts. We encourage you to talk to our certified professional trainers about what type of workout is safe in between EMS training sessions in your particular case.
