Benefits of EMS Fitness

Remember that song by Salt-N-Pepa? The lyrics went something like: “Let’s talk about strength trai—ning, let’s talk about you and me, let’s talk about all the good things it does for your mind and booooody” … or something along those lines.

Resistance training, also known as strength training, weightlifting, pumping iron, and hitting the weights, has a variety of benefits for overall health and fitness.

Key benefits of resistance training:

  • Increased muscle mass: Muscle is the body’s natural armor.
  • Increased strength: The stronger you are, the easier daily activities become.
  • Improved bone density: Resistance training can also help improve bone density, which can reduce the risk of osteoporosis.
  • Improved metabolism: Building muscle through resistance training can help boost your metabolism, making it easier to burn calories and lose weight.
  • Reduced risk of injury: Stronger muscles and bones can help reduce the risk of injury in everyday activities.
  • Improved balance:  Resistance training can also improve balance which will reduce the risk of falls, especially in older adults.
  • Improved coordination: Most everyday activities require some form of coordination, so improving it will make life easier.
  • Mental health benefits: Resistance training has been linked to improving mood, reducing stress, and boosting self-esteem.
  • Increased sports performance: Strength training can help improve performance in sports and physical activities by increasing muscle power, endurance, and overall fitness.

The national recommendations for resistance training are 2 sessions per week of 40 minutes to an hour where each muscle group is trained for 2-3 sets and 8-15 repetitions.

How can EMS workouts help?

Whole-body electrical muscle stimulation (WB-EMS) is a method of electrical muscle stimulation that uses low-frequency (5-120 Hz) electrical impulses to contract and relax the muscles. Benefits of WB-EMS include:

  • Increased muscle strength and endurance: WB-EMS can be used to target specific muscle groups and help them grow stronger and increase natural muscle activation.
  • Improved athletic performance: By increasing muscle strength and endurance, WB-EMS may help athletes perform better in their sport per research studies performed on professional soccer players, weightlifters, and runners.
  • Reduced muscle soreness and injury risk: WB-EMS may help to prevent muscle soreness and reduce the risk of injury by increasing blood flow and oxygenation to the muscles.
  • Weight loss and body shaping: WB-EMS may help to burn fat and shape the body by increasing muscle mass and metabolism when combined with proper nutrition.
  • Rehabilitation and recovery: WB-EMS may be used to help patients recover from injuries or surgeries, by promoting muscle healing and reducing muscle atrophy. This is how electrical muscle stimulation got its origins in the physical therapy space.

Every WB-EMS session is roughly 20 minutes long, but equates to 60-90 minutes of resistance training. Our recommendation is to do WB-EMS twice per week to effectively get around two to three hours of resistance training, double the national recommendation.

If you are looking to add some “Pepa” to your step, while keeping your joints healthy, in just a third of the time it would take you to get the same results at the gym, give WB-EMS a try.

We offer at-home and in-office services. We bring all the equipment needed.
